Batumi container terminal employees' strike paralyzed customs clearance

As strike of freelancers of 'Batumi International Container Terminal' Ltd. on Thursday paralyzed Economic Clearance Zones (ECZ), which cover customs documentation.

According to the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, at 07:00 ECZ started its work, at 10:00 freelancers of the LLC started te strike, later joined by regular workers that paralyzed the work of the container terminal and other services.

As a result 100 motor drivers who had already passed clearance were not able to take already vehicles out of the territory.

Despite the talks, the terminal was not able to provide taking out these vehicles.

As a result of their efforts, ECZ employees managed to take out 30 cars, but due to the blockage of the territory by the strikers they failed to take out the rest.

Currently negotiations are ongoing between ECZ and 'Batumi International Container Terminal'.
