Uzbekistan, Oman discuss bilateral cooperation in economic sphere

Representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan and the Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman Mohammed bin Said al-Lavati discussed issues of cooperation within bilateral and multilateral formats as well as the course of joint work on long-term projects in different fields on Thursday.
As reported, during the state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to the capital of Oman, Muscat in 2009, 19 interstate, intergovernmental and interdepartmental documents were signed and the main areas of bilateral cooperation determined. Also, an agreement was reached on joint investment projects worth over $1 billion.
In order to finance joint projects, the Uzbek-Omani Investment Company UzOmanCapital was established in 2009 with the declared statutory fund of $500 million.
In late March this year, a business forum of business circles of Uzbekistan and Oman was held as well as the first meeting of the Omani-Uzbek intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation. During these events, the sides discussed specific directions of joint projects in the sphere of economy, investment, trade, logistics, small business and private entrepreneurship, automotive and agriculture.
In particular, the special interest of entrepreneurs from Oman was caused by the opportunities provided by the Uzbek side in the Navoi free industrial economic zone and the Angren free industrial zone.
A preliminary agreement was also reached during the business forum on allocation of $ 100 million to UzOmanCapital in 2013 for the implementation of joint projects in Uzbekistan in the field of textile, electronics, building materials with the total project cost of about $ 300 million.
