Georgia, Tbilisi, June 13 / Trend N.Kirtzkhalia /

The ISAF Regional Command decided to regroup the Georgian units in Afghanistan and make changes to the operational defence plan, the Deputy Chief of the Joint Staff of the Georgian Armed Forces, Brigadier General Vakhtang Kapanadze said.

"This provides for additional strengthening of certain bases and disbandment of some of the major bases and posts. The goal of our units remains the same and is performed in the same region. There was simply a case of regrouping being carried out. These are complex activities that provide the consolidation of forces, respectively, strengthening of the bases, fortification work and raising funds for technical protection and enhancement of arms," Kapanadze said.

According to him, despite the fact there is a complicated situation in the area over the responsibility of Georgian soldiers, the above measures are aimed at maximising safety.

"This is a complex region and our soldiers are carrying out a difficult task in difficult circumstances, but the measures for the protection of personnel and bases are maximally increased," Kapanadze said.
