International Herald Tribune

Entrepreneur James Gordon Bennett Jr. founded the New York Herald's European edition in 1887. Cosmopolitan and innovative, Bennett was the embodiment of an international spirit that thrived through changes of ownership and name until it became the International Herald Tribune in 1967.

By 1980, responding to the growing demand for journalism with a global remit, the International Herald Tribune was sending electronic images of pages from Paris to Hong Kong via satellite, becoming the first paper simultaneously available to readers on opposite sides of the planet.

Today, the International Herald Tribune is the international voice of The New York Times and continues to expand the reach of its authoritative journalism through the newspaper, which is available in 130 countries, and read by millions on the Web and on mobile and tablet devices. Read more about the history of the IHT or, explore the latest advertising opportunities on the Editorial Calendar.
