Declaration of the National Judicial Council

on the Occasion of the Solemn Session on the 23rd of March 2012

We, members of the National Judicial Council, being a democratically elected supreme self-governing judicial body, functioning from the 15th of March 2012, declare, as an independent institution, that we respect the judicial independence all the time and we want to meet the requirements of the society represented by the legislative power. We consider as an elemental obbligation – besides the protection of the judicial independence – to help the work of the National Office for the Judiciary with our proposals, observations, assuring the mutual interests of the efficient and timely jurisdiction.

We crave for representing – with our rights guaranteed by law – every judge colleague while making a decision affecting the judiciary.

We consider as especially important the followings:

• controlling the financial management of the judicial administration and that of the courts,

• giving an opinion on the practice of the president of the National Office for the Judiciary and the Curia deciding about the applications of judges and court leaders,

• giving an opinion on the proposal and the report about the budget of the courts,

• working out an impartial system of criteria for those cases when the president of the National Office for the Judiciary decides according to the preliminary opinion of the Council.

We want to excercise to full extent the rights of giving proposals and making decisions with which we are vested by law.

In order to fulfil our goals, each member of the Council dedicates herself or himself to work in a conscientious professional manner.
