Varanasi team scores big win

NEW DELHI: Shree Kamlakar Chaube Adarsh Sewa Vidyalaya Inter College, Varanasi, beat GRM Public School, Nangloi, 12-1 after trailing by a goal in a group `A' league match of the ONGC 23rd Nehru sub-junior hockey tournament at the Shivaji Stadium here on Tuesday.

Surya Nath Sharma (4), Aditya Singh (3), Mohammed Imran (2), Ameer Khan, Shrish Visen and Imran Khan were the marksmen for the Varanasi team, which qualified for the superleague. Naveen scored the only goal for the Delhi in the eighth minute.

In group `D', Simranjit Singh scored the match-winner as DAV SSS, Chandigarh, beat S.S. High School, Khunti, 1-0.

The Chandigarh team, along with CRZ SSS, Sonepat, that beat Oswal Jain HSS, Alwar, 7-2, in group `C', also qualified for the superleague.

Vikram Singh (3), Anil Paliwal (2), Naveen Kumar and Sidhant Gautam scored for the Sonepat team. Naveen Kumar and Amit Kumar Yadav reduced the margin for the Alwar team.

Anuj's all-round show

An all-round performance by Anuj Jain helped West Delhi Academy beat Subhania Club by 23 runs in a league match of the Radhika Cup under-19 cricket tournament at the Ambedkar ground in New Delhi.

The scores: West Delhi Academy 207 for eight in 35 overs (Anuj Jain 79, Chetan Chopra 57, Bhupender Lingwal 31, Amit Yadav three for 40) beat Subhania Club 184 in 33.2 overs (Rahul Mehta 57, Amit Yadav 42, Vineet Dahiya three for 33, Anuj Jain three for 46).

Gulmohar Club triumphs

An all-round performance by Shivam Gupta took Gulmohar Club to a 23-run victory over Manohar Lal Academy in the final of the under-15 cricket tournament.

The scores: Gulmohar Club 310 for eight in 50 overs (Shivam Gupta 134, Ravinder Singh 96) beat Manohar Lal Academy 287 in 41.4 overs (Raghav Santosh 87, Sarthak Singh 52, Shivam Gupta three for 43).

Six goals by Naveen

Six goals by Naveen Khanna piloted Shanti Farm to an 11-1 victory over Majaara `B' in the first round of the Havana Cavalry Gold Cup polo tournament at the Jaipur Polo ground in New Delhi on Tuesday. Tarquin Southwell (3) and Lokendra Singh (2) scored the other goals for the winner. Gerardo Mazzini scored the only goal for the loser.

In another match played at the Army Equestrian Centre, Delhi Cantonment, Dhruvpal Godara scored all the seven goals for the winner as Indian Navy beat Equisport 7-5. Maj. Navjit Sandhu (4) and Rakshit Agnihotri found the target for the loser.

Virat Kohli shines

An unbeaten century by Virat Kohli took Delhi to 286 against Punjab on the opening day of the three-day Vijay Merchant under-17 cricket match at Patiala.

The scores: Delhi 286 for six in 95 overs (Virat Kohli 138 not out, Hemant Singh 54, Priyank Tehlan 49) v Punjab.
