The Egyptian authorities denied Nobel peace prize winner Tawakkol Karman entry into the country on Sunday after her arrival to the airport, on account of being blacklisted for security reasons, the state news agency reported.

Karman, a Yemeni political activist and journalist, was told that she was a persona non grata upon her arrival to Cairo Airport and was deported back to Yemen.

Critical of the army's ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi following mass protests against him, Karman was headed to Cairo to visit the Rabaa al-Adawiya sit-in where Mursi's supporters are mainly located.
