Analysis: The Giants said he suffered a contusion on right forearm and X-rays were negative.
8/22/2013 Ryan Braun, LF (Mil) A month after acknowledging only that he made ``mistakes,'' Ryan Braun admitted taking performance-enhancing drugs during his NL MVP season of 2011. The suspended Milwaukee slugger said he took a cream and a lozenge containing banned substances while rehabilitating an injury.

Analysis: Braun currently is serving a 65-game suspension after he successfully appealed a 50-game ban in October 2011.
8/22/2013 Andres Torres, LF (SF) Torres has been placed on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained left Achilles' tendon and might not return this season.

Analysis: Torres said the injury has lingered since the start of 2011 after he helped the Giants win a World Series championship the previous fall. He is scheduled to get a second opinion and be examined by specialist Dr. Robert Anderson next week in North Carolina and hopes to avoid surgery - though an MRI exam showed bone spurs in the area.
8/22/2013 Paul Konerko, 1B (CWS) Konerko was scratched from the White Sox starting lineup just before the first pitch of Thursday night's game against the Kansas City Royals after complaining of light-headedness.

Analysis: Konerko was listed at first base and batting fifth on the original lineup sheet. His removal set off a series of changes that included adding outfielder Jordan Danks to the lineup.
8/22/2013 Brandon Beachy, P (Atl) Beachy will miss his next start due to elbow soreness sustained Tuesday night in a game at the New York Mets. Beachy, who underwent surgery on June 21, 2012, will be examined by Dr. James Andrews on Monday.

Analysis: Beachy (2-1, 4.50) allowed three earned runs and five hits in six innings of the 5-3 loss to the Mets. He was making his fifth start since returning from Tommy John surgery.
8/22/2013 Daisuke Matsuzaka, P (NYM) The New York Mets have signed Daisuke Matsuzaka to a one-year contract, and the right-hander is scheduled to start Friday night's game against Detroit.

Analysis: Matsuzaka was released by Cleveland on Tuesday at his request. He had spent the entire season at Triple-A Columbus after failing to win a spot in Cleveland's rotation during spring training.
8/22/2013 Shane Victorino, RF (Bos) Victorino was 3 for 5 in Boston's 12-1 win at San Francisco on Wednesday.

Analysis: Victorino is 11 for 22 during a five-game hitting streak.
8/22/2013 Will Middlebrooks, 3B (Bos) Middlebrooks continued his torrid stretch, homering in Boston's 12-1 win at San Francisco on Wednesday.

Analysis: Middlebrooks is 15 for 34 (.441) with seven RBIs in 11 games since being recalled from Pawtucket.
8/22/2013 Felix Doubront, P (Bos) Doubront improved to 9-6 in Boston's 12-1 win at San Francisco on Wednesday, giving up one run and five hits over eight innings.

Analysis: Doubront has been a nice surprise for Boston, particularly over the last two months as he's 5-3 with a 2.80 ERA in his last 12 outings.

Analysis: Rizzo hadn't homered in his last 12 games while batting .114.
8/22/2013 Delmon Young, RF (TB) Young is returning to Tampa Bay on a minor league deal after the Rays selected him with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2003 draft.

Analysis: The club said Thursday that the 27-year-old outfielder/designated hitter will report to Double-A Montgomery. Young began the season with the Philadelphia Phillies after helping Detroit reach the World Series last year, winning the AL championship series MVP award with the Tigers.
8/22/2013 Zack Greinke, P (LAD) Greinke won for the 12th time this year and for the fourth straight start in Los Angeles' 4-1 win at Miami on Wednesday, limiting the Marlins to one run and six hits over eight innings.

Analysis: Greinke is 6-1 over his last nine starts with a 1.41 ERA.
8/22/2013 Giancarlo Stanton, RF (Mia) Stanton homered for the third time in five games in Miami's 4-1 loss to the Dodgers on Wednesday.

Analysis: Stanton is slugging .647 while collecting at least one hit in each of his last eight games.
8/22/2013 Brandon McCarthy, P (Ari) McCarthy lost his fifth straight start in Arizona's 10-7 defeat at Cincinnati on Wednesday, surrendering a season-high seven runs as well as eight hits over a season-low 2 1-3 innings.

Analysis: McCarthy has dropped four starts with a 6.98 ERA since returning from shoulder inflammation.

8/22/2013 Cliff Lee, P (Phi) Lee's winless stretch extended to six games Wednesday despite another strong outing as he limited Colorado to two runs despite nine hits over seven innings.

Analysis: Lee is receiving an average of 1.85 runs of support while going 0-4 over his last six games with a 4.62 ERA.
8/22/2013 Leury Garcia, 2B (CWS) Chicago recalled Garcia from Triple-A Charlotte before Thursday night's game against Kansas City.

Analysis: Leury takes the roster spot of outfielder Blake Tekotte, who was optioned to Charlotte. The White Sox needed some depth in their infield with third baseman Jeff Keppinger dealing with a stiff lower back. Keppinger was a late scratch from the lineup Tuesday night and did not play Wednesday night. Conor Gillaspie has been paying in his place. Garcia was part of the deal that sent Alex Rios to the Rangers.
