The Utne Reader recently republished Jim Kessler’s Democracy essay on gun control. The article originally appeared in our spring issue, as one of twenty breakthrough progressive ideas for the next president. Kessler writes:

What we need, then, is a new strategy to reduce gun violence: Don’t restrict gun rights, but instead deepen the sense of gun ownership.
