THE SECOND ANNUAL CREATIVE TIME SANDCASTLE COMPETITION

This summer, Creative Time, the vanguard presenter of public art, is heading back out to Far Rockaway, Queens, to host its second annual Artist Sandcastle Competition. On Friday, August 9, a group of ten selected artists and their teams will battle it out on the sand near the Beach 86th Street boardwalk on Rockaway Beach.

This year’s participating artists are: David Brooks, Sebastian Errazuriz, Ghost of a Dream (Lauren Was & Adam Eckstrom), Jamie Isenstein, Natalie Jeremijenko, Esperanza Mayobre, Rachel Owens, Duke Riley, Christopher Robbins, and Marc Andre Robinson. Judges include designer and actor Waris Ahluwalia and Director of MoMA PS1 Klaus Biesenbach, among others.

The day will kick off at noon with sunbathing and beach fun; castle building will start at 2 PM and judging and prizes at 5 PM. At 6 PM, the party will move from the beach to the boardwalk for burgers, beer, and a dance party at Rippers. Local food vendor favorites will be onsite throughout the day with summer snacks and refreshments.

This event is free and open to members of the public of all ages.
