PASSPORT TO THE ARTS

Passport to the Arts Brings The New Yorker’s Cultural Authority to Life, in a Daylong Celebration of the City’s Creative Scene

On May 4, 2013, more than 1,000 of New York’s culture enthusiasts turned out for the eighth annual Passport to the Arts, a self-guided tour of 22 galleries in Chelsea and SoHo, welcoming guests to a daylong exploration of the arts. Along the route, participants presented their keepsake passports to each gallery where they received a special stamp created by a featured artist.

In a unique partnership, Passport to the Arts teamed up with the McKittrick Hotel, home of the interactive theater experience “Sleep No More.” Attendees experienced special performances and entertainment, culminating at Gallow Green, the hotel’s secluded rooftop bar, where guests enjoyed light fare and libations.

This year’s wrap party and silent auction benefited the nonprofit arts organization Creative Time, which collaborates with artists to bring art to public spaces. Attendees placed competing bids on art donated by participating galleries, along with special travel and cultural experiences presented by New Yorker sponsors and partners. Food and beverages were curated by culinary aficionados Chris Stang and Andrew Steinthal of the popular food and restaurant blog Immaculate Infatuation.
