‘Nooksack 306’ fight to remain in tribe

A previous version of this story misrepresented the status of the case. Last week, under a tribal court ruling, disenrollment hearings were stayed for only six of the 306 members. Disenrollment hearings are slated to begin Wednesday, although an emergency request to reinstate a stay for all 306 is pending before a tribal court of appeals. In addition, a federal judge denied a temporary restraining order sought by two tribal members to block an election that changed a section of the tribal constitution on enrollment qualifications.
