5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly Done Kindle Editions of the Papers July 9, 2011
I'd been waiting a long time for The Guardian and The Observer to be available. That time has been very well spent producing superb versions of the papers for Kindle. It's wonderful to switch on the Kindle and have the papers waiting, and the reading experience is as good as the printed version. Lots of photographs also included, and all at a very good price. I can find no faults, it's all been brilliantly done. Very highly recommended. Thank you so much for putting the papers on Kindle.

5.0 out of 5 stars UK Guardian is the best British newspaper March 25, 2012
I did a 14-day free trial of The Guardian and was riveted to nearly all the articles. As an American, I enjoy reading news from a foreign perspective. Unlike so many of the UK papers, The Guardian is fair and mostly unbiased, but it does have a liberal sensibility, but that is refreshing when so many of the UK papers are homophobic and obsessed with religion and the C of E. A recent essay on the Falkland Islands conflict was one of the best things I have read lately about why Britain still defends the tiny South Atlantic archipelago. Most articles give both sides of the story: Tory and Labour. You will not find much Royal Family gossip or glitzy show-biz coverage (there's plenty of that in the Fleet Street tabloids), but the Guardian's news coverage, editorials and reporting are all top-notch. The Guardian is what the New York Times used to be 20 years ago: intelligent, informed, and enlightening. This is Britain's best and brightest newspaper. I just wish I could afford to subscribe regularly.

3.0 out of 5 stars A great read, but where are the pictures? July 15, 2011
I, too, was excited when I read that there was a Kindle edition of the Guardian and I snapped it up.It was fantastic; a great read, but then I read the reviews on the UK amazon page saying things like "lots of photographs" , "as good as the printed version" while meanwhile I'm staring at just text. As I said, it's a great read, but the experiece would be considerably enhanced if we got the same fully formatted edition here in Spain.

1.0 out of 5 stars Guardian Newspaper December 29, 2011
By Johnno
I have used The Guardian as a prime source of European and UK news for over 40 years here in Australia. I used to have air mail copies sent then have used their home page as a news source. Excited when I got a KINDLE for Christmas and have subscribed to the 14 day trial. Its a good condensation of the paper and I am enjoying it. However the cost is so EXPENSIVE at $18.00 a month.

Its not the full paper and I understand this but I will want a lot more for my money than I getting now in the form of content. I can have the actual newspaper delivered (via Australia Post) for $235.00 a year and the KINDLE edition is $216.00 a year....!!! Not very good value at all.

I get more from the web site at no cost.

FIVE STARS for quality content (what little there is)

ONE STAR for value!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, a few nuggets missing December 22, 2011
First things first, the Guardian and Observer have done a fantastic job of putting their paper in an enjoyable to read format on the Kindle.

The paper is easily navigated, allowing you to read each article in order - quickly flick through using the scroll, or skip whole sections (i.e., going straight to the Sport) and look over the headlines before choosing an article.

Each article starts with the headline, followed by a short 20 word abstract (usually) and a picture.

All editorial sections are included, including all letters to the editor (I was impressed with this). The G2, film review section, magazine etc too.

Price is a bit high - I receive this newspaper in Australia via wifi (no problem at all, the daily edition is available on my wifi between 9:30am and midday Perth time each day, that is 1:30am to 4:00am GMT). It is still a lower price than ALL competing newspapers on the kindle AND it costs alot less than it would to buy the newspaper abroad! (At least $5 a pop, usually a lot more). Takes a matter of seconds to download, fantastic service!

Being critical - Newspaper items which are missing and I would like the Guardian Kindle edition to include:

1) Sport result tables and leagues. It is hard to judge a cricket match without seeing the scoreboard!
2) Top stocks and shares? Is there a way to still see the stock list?
3) Gold / Coffee / main stock exchange prices at a glance? Something I always observe in the Financial section and is not included here.
4) Weather - City temperatures from the North and South?

As other reviewers have pointed out - Puzzles are not included. Though would they be fun to do on the Kindle? I have my doubts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly produced - addictive August 19, 2011
Never used to have time to read the Guardian everyday, but the Kindle version is addictive, and delivered even before I rise in the morning. A real treat. Shame I have to get the the Observer as well - lousy paper.

I subscribed to this half expecting it to be full of British celebrity gossip about celebrities whose names I don't even know. Instead I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the writing, and the depth of some of the reporting. (If you are looking for articles that are two paragraphs and out, don't bother with the Guardian.)

I am an American but I presently get my news from the Guardian and the Financial Times, both British papers. Both are written at a higher level of intelligence than any American paper I know about (including the New York Times, which I have dropped).
