Date News
10/15/2006 Polanco won the AL championship series MVP award and helped put the Detroit Tigers in the World Series for the first time since 1984. Polanco had three hits, including a ninth-inning single two pitches ahead of Magglio Ordonez's pennant-winning homer in Detroit's 6-3 victory in Game 4 over the Oakland Athletics on Saturday.

Analysis: Polanco was selected MVP after batting .529 (9-for-17) in the four-game sweep and extending his postseason hitting streak to nine games -- dating back to 2001 with St. Louis. In eight games of the 2006 postseason, Polanco is batting .471 (16-for-34) with two doubles, four RBIs and five runs.
10/14/2006 Polanco continued to swing the bat well in the playoffs, getting two hits and an RBI as Detroit beat Oakland 3-0 in Game 3 of the ALCS on Friday. The Tigers are one win away from the World Series and Polanco has had a hand in every game so far.

Analysis: Polanco has a hit in each playoff game _ seven straight _ and is batting .448 (13-for-29) with four RBIs. The second baseman batted .295 wuith four homers and 52 RBIs in 110 regular season games.
9/27/2006 Polanco drove in three runs in Detroit's 4-3 win over Toronto on Tuesday night, and has not been slowed in his two games since coming off the disabled list.

Analysis: Polanco went on the DL on Aug. 16 after separating his shoulder the day before while diving for a ball in shallow center in Boston, and is 4-for-6 with a double, five RBIs and a run since coming off the DL. He's batting .299 with 55 runs and 49 RBIs in 105 games this season.
9/22/2006 Polanco is coming off the disabled list Saturday, in time for Detroit's stretch run in the tight AL Central race. He went on the DL on Aug. 16 after separating his shoulder the day before while diving for a ball in shallow center in Boston.

Analysis: Polanco is hitting .294 with three home runs, 44 RBIs and 54 runs scored in 103 games this season. Manager Jim Leyland said Polanco would play Saturday in the second game of a three-game series with Kansas City. He said the second baseman probably would not play Sunday. The Tigers are off Monday and conclude the regular season at home with three games against Toronto and three against the Royals.
9/17/2006 Polanco said his season is over on Sunday, a month after he suffered a separated left shoulder trying to make a catch in Detroit's game against Boston. The second baseman was expected to miss four to six weeks and was sore after taking batting practice before the Tigers' game on Saturday against Baltimore.

Analysis: Detroit acquired Neifi Perez from the Chicago Cubs to fill Polanco's spot. The team still says Polanco is day-to-day, even though he ruled himself out. In 103 games this season, Polanco batted .294 with three homers and 44 RBIs.
8/17/2006 Polanco was placed on the 15-day disabled list after separating his left shoulder after falling to the ground following a lunging catch Tuesday.

Analysis: Polanco is batting .294 with three home runs and 44 RBIs.
8/16/2006 Polanco separated his left shoulder making a diving catch in the seventh inning of Detroit's 3-2 win over the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday. Detroit catcher Ivan Rodriguez said on the Tigers' postgame broadcast that Polanco was out for the year. "You don't replace a guy like Polanco," Detroit manager Jim Leyland said. "This is one of those things that has to be digested. I'll talk to the club about it, but we won't make excuses."

Analysis: Polanco is batting .294 with three home runs and 44 RBIs.
7/23/2006 Polanco left Sunday's game against Oakland in the first inning after being hit in the head by a pitch from Esteban Loaiza. The 30-year-old Tigers second baseman walked off the field under his own power after being examined by Detroit trainers. He was replaced by Omar Infante.

Analysis: X-rays of Polanco's jaw were negative, but he was to undergo further tests later Sunday. He's hitting .295 with three homers and 37 RBIs this season.
