White Côtes du Rhônes are comfort wines. Their plush texture, elaborate layers of flavor and lack of excessive oak make them a satisfying alternative to California Chardonnays.

Inside Story
White Côtes du Rhônes are typically blends made up of some proportion of Grenache Blanc, Roussanne, Marsanne and Viognier. In this case, Grenache Blanc brings crisp grapefruit and white cherry flavors, while Roussanne adds flesh and Viognier contributes pretty floral notes and tropical fruit flavors to the mix. The soils of the region are primarily composed of clay and limestone, the latter adding a pleasing minerality to the wines and keeping them focused and precise.

Jean-François Ranvier and François Dauvergne partnered after meeting in 2004. Dauvergne had grown up in Bordeaux, but his family owned vineyards in the Languedoc region of Limoux. Ranvier was a prodigal geologist, turned agronomist, then winemaker. After deciding to start their own joint venture, they approached growers in the Rhône Valley offering consultation in the vineyards and offering a fair price for the grapes, which they would then vinify and market. To date, they have taken on 40 grower partners and are enjoying wide critical recognition for their efforts.
In the Glass
After the initial white flower aromas, you’ll note fleshy stone fruit aromas of apricot and peach with hints of cinnamon, then juicy mango flavors and a supple texture finishing with soft baked apple notes.
At the Table
White Rhônes have plenty of body, so you’ll want to pair them with medium-weight dishes that perhaps employ some North African spices, tropical fruit salsas, chicken or rich, sweet seafood. Serve it with grilled langoustines, couscous with nuts and sultanas, or steamed crab with clarified butter.
