will buy 20,000 G3 7.62mm assault rifle from Turkey to strengthen its national
army. |
Libya
has submitted a request to the Turkish government to buy 20,000 G3 assault
rifle in an attempt to strengthen to national army. The G3 is a 7.62×51mm
NATO battle rifle developed in the 1950s by the German armament manufacturer
Heckler & Koch GmbH. The G3 is produced produced under license in
Turkey by the the Turkish defense Company MKE. |

The Libyan government
is seeking to buy 20,000 G3 assault rifles including 7.62 mm and 5.56
mm caliber, which has been confirmed on the Turkish side.
The HK G3 was introduced in 1959 and became the standard-issue service
rifle of the West German Army.
The G3 assault rifle served as a general issue shoulder weapon not only
for German Armed forces, but also for many other countries. Those include
Greece, Iran, Mexico, Norway, Pakistan, Portugal, Sweden, Turkey and
many other countries. Total of more than 50 countries during the last
40 years issued the G3 to its forces.
The guns are manufactured in Turkey and will be delivered to Libya to
aide the building on the army. Libya intends to purchase new military
armoured vehicles as well as helicopters.
