A Cairo court of appeals upheld on Monday a verdict against former Prime Minister Hisham Kandil, sentencing him to a year in prison, a judicial source said.

The court ordered the arrest of Kandil, who was appointed prime minister in August 2012 by deposed Islamist President Mohamed Mursi.

He was sentenced for failing to execute a court order pertaining to the reinstatement of employees at Tanta's linen company when he was in office.

Kandil tendered his resignation on July 9 following the military's ouster of Mursi after mass protests against his rule.
