WATCH: MTV announces 2013 Video Music Award nominees

  • July 17 at 10:58 am

Justin Timberlake and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis top the list of nominees for MTV’s 30th (!!!) VMAs — making everyone who remembers when ‘NSYNC was denied a moon man for “Tearin’ Up My Heart” in 1999 feel both justified and very old.

JT and our favorite tag poppin’ duo are up for six awards spread across their combined four summer hits. Timberlake’s “Mirrors” is in the running for best video of the year, male video, pop video and editing, while “Suit & Tie” is up for best collaboration and direction. Macklemore and Lewis’ “Thrift Shop” also made the video of the year category, and “Can’t Hold Us” completes the set with five more nods.

The rest of the nominees read like a summer pre-game playlist, with all of the major blockbusters making an appearance. Save for T. Swift’s “22,” which is mysteriously absent. Too much hipster + cuteness for you, MTV? We would have to agree.

The awards are set to air August 25, from Brooklyn, complete with newly re-imaged moon man from New York artist KAWS.
