Tower Building

The Tower Building is our main administrative centre. You'll find lecture theatres, teaching rooms and IT suites here. The School of Humanities and the School of the Environment both have their main offices on the first floor.

There are also exhibition galleries on the ground and first floors, and the basement area includes Archive, Records Management and Museum Services.

The Tower Extension - the building which stretches out to the left of the main entrance - was added on at a later date and includes teaching rooms and offices for Humanities and Social Sciences.

With fantastic views over the city, the River Tay and Fife, the Top of the Tower cafe on the 10th floor is ideal for catching up with friends over lunch or a coffee.

If you're lost and not sure where to go, the Tower Reception desk is a good starting point. The friendly staff behind the desk will help you get your bearings and send you in the right direction.

Nearby, there's a Journey Planner which will help you to find your way round the city by public transport.

You'll also find a bunch of useful leaflets so you can see what's going on around the University.

The Tower Foyer and Lamb Galleries regularly show exhibitions from the Museum Collections, including material relating to the history of the University, as well as contemporary artwork and exhibits.

Opening times for these exhibitions are:

Monday-Friday: 09.30-20.30
Saturday: 09.30-16.30

At Dundee you can study French, German or Spanish as part of many degree programmes, combining a language with your main degree subject.

You also have the opportunity to study a wide variety of other languages for your career or personal development, usually taken as evening classes. Languages offered include French, German and Spanish, as well as less-widely taught languages such as Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Italian, Japanese, Latin, Russian, Gaelic, Greek, Polish, Portuguese and Turkish.

The School of the Environment is based in the Tower Building. However, as you can see from these videos, they also manage to spend a lot of time outdoors too:

Did you know?

  • To raise money for various charities, students have abseiled down all 140 feet of the building!
  • The Tower Building was the first tower block in Dundee city centre.
  • The D'Arcy Thompson lecture theatre in the Tower Extension is used to host top speakers from around the world - as well as first and second year lectures.
