Jackets hire former tough guy as 'team ambassador'
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) The Columbus Blue Jackets have hired Jody Shelley - the club's all-time leader in penalty minutes and fighting majors - as a broadcast associate and "team ambassador."
Shelley was one of the Blue Jackets' most popular players 2001-2008, recording 11 goals and 18 assists in 380 games with 1,025 penalty minutes. He led the club in penalty minutes four times and set the franchise record with 249 during the 2002-03 season.
The 37-year-old will provide analysis during home radio broadcasts, in addition to working occasionally as a TV commentator and interviewer and co-hosting a weekly radio show.
