Oprah holds a yard sale, raises $600,000

FILE - In this Jan. 14, 2012 file photo, Oprah Winfrey walks with honor graduates after the first graduation ceremony at Oprah Winfrey's leadership academy for girls in Henley on Klip, South Africa. A spokeswoman for OWN, Winfrey’s cable channel, says Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, that the former daytime talk-show queen was at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs on Monday to meet with two graduates from Winfrey’s Leadership Academy for Girls. The academy, a boarding school for underprivileged South African girls, opened in 2007. (AP Photo/Jerome Delay, File)

Oprah’s yard sale Saturday in Santa Barbara has brought in $600,000 (so far) for charity, reports People. The talk-show queen decided to also declutter her homes in Hawaii, Illinois (Chicago) and Indiana, selling off furniture, art, and antiques to benefit her girls’ leadership academy in South Africa. Seems everyone wanted a piece of Oprah: Sales for even the most mundane offerings far exceeded the estimates — $100 teapot went for $1,000, a “TV Guide” cover photo (valued at $200 to $400) fetched $3,000. A final tally is expected will be released Monday.
