Favela Football

Favela Football will be a six-part weekly series on BBC World News and bbc.com that meets talented youngsters in the Campo de America football academy in Fortazela’s favela. Providing a portrait of a passionate, football-crazy community through intimate stories from children aspiring to be football stars. The series is planned to air Spring 2014 in the run-up to the World Cup. Unique stories complemented by online content including behind-the-scenes video blogs, extended interviews with the characters, soccer tips, tutorials, and self-portraits from the featured children.

My World Cup

My World Cup on BBC World News

Interactive and audience-led, My World Cup will capture the madness, fever and excitement of the tournament through intimate stories. Hosted by Dan Walker and Robbie Savage, there will be 10 programmes on BBC World News and bbc.com in the run-up to and during the tournament. Offering live access to football stars, My World Cup will get viewers involved through webcam, bbc.com, Twitter and Facebook. In addition, a live text page and reports on fans’ reactions to the day’s exciting events will be available online.

During the build-up to the World Cup (Spring/Summer 2014), England footballing legend Gary Lineker reports live from iconic locations in Brazil, interviewing some of the country's most famous residents. In this weekly documentary, Gary will explore the mystique of Brazilian football as he talks to its biggest stars including Pelé, Ronaldo, and Marta (subject to change). Brazil and the Beautiful Game will provide social and economic context around the fascinating country – driven by football stories that run through its history and people. Specially curated clips will sit online on BBC Sport. Duration: 23 minutes.

The Perfect Match

The Perfect Match on BBC World News

What makes Brazil so passionate about football? How did the game come to dominate the national imagination? And what makes Brazilians so good at it? Twelve short films explore Brazil’s fascination with football, and how Brazil has influenced the game – placing emphasis on human stories. Supported by great online content including expansive articles, blogs, photos and graphical elements such as timelines, the weekly films are planned to air in Spring 2014.

Each programme will explore the unique nature of Brazilian football, including (subject to change)

  • Football and Culture – how football influences all forms of culture in Brazil;
  • The Brazilian Style – the influence of traditions such as samba and capoeira on Brazil’s eye-pleasing style of football; and
