Al-SalamawalTanmeya is the political arm of the Islamic Jihad Organizationwhich adopted militancyespecially in the 1980s.

The party groups many Jihadist leadersincluding Sheikh Osama Kassem, Ali Farrag, NezarGhorab and the party’s current president, Kamal Habib.Kassem andFarrag were sentenced to life.

The party ranks suffered confusion before the elections in spite of joining the National Democratic Alliance for Egypt which is led by the Muslim Brotherhood’s Freedom and Justice Party.

Some of the party's members decided to run as individuals while Habibwithdrew his candidacy. Many Jihad leaders believe that adopted an attitude against taking part of the elections for religious reasons. Another Jihad leader, Mamdouh Ismail, who recently joined Al-Asalah Party, is running on the Islamic alliance list.
