About 25 Boko Haram insurgents were killed in confrontation with the Nigerian Army, a military source yesterday told journalists.
The senior Army officer who does not want his name in print disclosed that the men were killed when they were confronted by the troops of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army who had gone to their hideout in Ngauramari area within Bama local government area of Borno state to smoke them out.
The source further disclosed that the military in its avowed effort to make the Yuletide orderly without breach of the peace will continue to confront the terrorist group until they are flush out of their hideouts in the Northeast.
Also a driver, who saw the corpses of the Boko Haram terrorists, told journalists in Maiduguri that: "I saw the corpses of three Boko Haram terrorists left by the road side, I learnt that they came on motorcycles".
He said the incident occurred between 9:30 to 10:00am on Friday when the insurgents tried to launch an attack on motorists but they ran out of luck as the weapon got jammed.
He further said that the insurgents were subsequently attacked by the troops of the 7 Division who fired a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) at them.
He added that the military, supported by aerial surveillance also pursued some of the sect members into the bushes, caught up with them and were able to crush about 20 members of the deadly sect.
When contacted for confirmation yesterday evening, the spokesman of the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army, Col. Muhammad Dole promised to he was coming with a written press release which he never brought before the curfew on Maiduguri began.
