Baghdad (NINA) – President of Kurdistan Region, Massoud Barazani, discussed with the US Ambassador to Iraq, Robert Beecroft, the situation in Syria, Geneva II Conference and situation in West Kurdistan.
A statement issued on Tuesday, Dec. 17, by the Presidency of Kurdistan Region said that in their meeting, Barazani and Beecroft discussed the relations between Baghdad and Erbil.
It pointed out that Ambassador Beecroft expressed thanks to Barazani for the help provided by the Region’s Government and the people of Kurdistan Region to the Syrian refugees, as well as facilities the Region offers to members of Iraq’s other religions.
Beecroft also expressed thanks to the efforts exerted by the Region toward solving the issue of lands in Niniveh province that been allocated to Azidis, Christians, Shabak and other minorities, as well as the ongoing follow up in uncover the criminals who assassinated the journalist Kaweh Kermiyani.
For his part, Barazani said that regardless of large number of Syrian refugees that exceeded the Region’s capabilities, but provide them with aid is a national and humanitarian duty and will continue provide them with needed aid; pointing out that the people of Kurdistan Region are committed to the principles of coexistence and tolerance regarding other religions, the statement went on saying.
As for the assassination of journalist Kaweh Kermiyani, Barazani said, “It is a painful and an unfortunate incident, we are committed the freedom of opinion and we will not allow such incident to occur again”. / End.
