DIEGO GARCIA, British Indian Ocean Territory (Dec. 23, 2013) - Personnel aboard U.S. Navy Support Facility Diego Garcia broke ground to mark the beginning of construction of a potable water plant modernization project during a ceremony held in the Cantonment area. SAN DIEGO (Dec. 23, 2013) - The littoral combat ship USS Freedom (LCS 1) returns to its homeport of Naval Base San Diego after completing its maiden deployment. During its nine-month deployment, Freedom took part in a number of theater security and maritime presence operations, and also participated in the humanitarian assistance and disaster response efforts to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. Officials Praise Decision on Futenma Facility

WASHINGTON, Dec. 27, 2013 - Senior defense officials praised the governor of Okinawa, Japan, today for his approval of construction of a long-postponed air base to replace Marine Corps Air Station Futenma-Camp Schwab in Henoko Bay.
