A winter freeze could prove dangerous for anyone lacking a warm place to go. So if you see a homeless person or anyone else in need of shelter — or if you need shelter yourself — call one of these numbers:

The District

D.C. Hypothermia Shelter Hotline: 1-800-535-7252.

Maryland

Montgomery County Crisis Center: 240-777-4000. You can find shelter locations here.

Prince George’s County Homeless Hotline: 1-888-731-0999 (toll free in Maryland) or 301-864-7095. Here’s a look at what information they will ask for and what you should expect.

Virginia

Arlington County Emergency Winter Shelter: 703-228-7395. There’s also an emergency shelter for battered and homeless women and their families (703-237-0881), an emergency shelter for families (703-525-7177) and others. For a complete look at the county’s services, head here.

Alexandria Winter Hypothermia Shelter: 703-548-7500.

Fairfax County non-emergency line: 703-691-2131 (TTY 711).  This is a list of shelters with information on the number of beds available.

Falls Church: The Friends of Falls Church Homeless Shelter (opens at 6 p.m., closes at 8 a.m.) 703-854-1400. Police department non-emergency line: 703-248-5053.
