Temperatures made it up into the mid-50s to around 60 today. The 61 degree high in D.C. was the warmest in three weeks, when we hit 64 degrees on December 23. In all likelihood, it’ll be the warmest we see for another extended period as we begin to step back down as soon as tomorrow. Our short-lived dry spell ends as well.

Through Tonight: Shower odds are up as we get into late evening out west, and that sweeps through the area by midnight or so. Showers are then likely (60%-70% chance) across the area through dawn. Temperatures dip to the near 40 to mid-40 range for lows.

Tomorrow (Tuesday): Showers remain likely in the morning, trending drier as we get into the afternoon. Overall, nothing super heavy, but we could see a heavier batch of showers or two. By mid-afternoon or so, everything should be pushing east, and skies beginning to clear. Highs range from near 50 to the mid-50s.

Crispy California: While this is often the time of year California is getting its much needed moisture supply, the raging drought persists and high fire danger is expected around Los Angeles and San Francisco in coming days. In southern California, gusts reaching 60 to 70 mph in the high country, and 35 to 50 mph elsewhere, could lead to explosive fire growth as ground fuels remain extraordinarily dry. The worst is expected Tuesday into Wednesday night.
