Rockville Pike near the White Flint Mall in Rockville is shut down Friday in both directions because of a major water main break.

Montgomery County Police said the incident began about 2 a.m. when a pipe broke in that area. Authorities have the roadway shutdown on Rockville Pike between Edson Lane and Flanders Avenue.

Police said it is not clear how long the road will be closed, but advised drivers to avoid the area.

Metro said buses that service that area may also be impacted and have delays as roads are closed because of the water main break.
