School of Global Affairs and Public Policy

The School of Global Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) prepares its graduates to take the lead in shaping the future of their nations and the world at large, with a strong belief in the interaction of international and public affairs, an unwavering commitment to ethics and the rule of law, and a recognition of the unique role that the media play in shaping public policy.

GAPP consists of three academic departments in law, public policy and administration, and journalism and mass communication, in addition to five research centers including the Center for Migration and Refugee Studies (CMRS), the Cynthia Nelson Institute for Gender and Women Studies (IGWS), the Kamal Adham Center for Television and Digital Journalism, Middle East Studies Program (MESC)Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud Center for American Studies and Research, and the Executive Education unit. All these programs offer students unique opportunities to develop a comprehensive overview of the strategic issues that are of great concern to world citizens today.

Laila El Baradei Serves as Acting GAPP Dean




Laila El Baradei is now the acting dean of GAPP, while Dean Nabil Fahmy is serving as the Egyptian minister of foreign affairs. 

El Baradei has been the associate dean of the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy for several years, and is familiar with the school's activities and programs. The school would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Professor El Baradei and wish her success in this new position.

                            

First Academic Agreement with the
Egyptian State Council

The Egyptian State Council and AUC's  School of Global Affairs and Public Policy signed the first academic cooperation agreement between the two institutions, which includes the provision of scholarships for State Council judges to enroll in graduate studies at the LLM program in international and comparative law, as well as the joint development of new course offerings specially tailored to address the current needs, concerns and interests of the State Council community. AUC and the State Council will also be organizing closed seminars and open scientific conferences for specialists, possibly in coordination with law schools at Harvard and Cornell Universities, as well as developing the legal research skills of State Council members by providing short programs through the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy. The agreement was signed at the State Council headquarters in Giza by Councellor Farid Tanagho, chief justice of the State Council, and AUC President Lisa Anderson.
