CAIRO, Jan 26 (Aswat Masriya) The Egyptian Coalition for Children’s Rights denounced on Sunday the arrest of children in Saturday’s demonstrations.
While tens of thousands gathered in Tahrir Square on Sunday under heavy security, Muslim Brotherhood supporters and anti-army activists protested and clashed with security forces.
Forty-nine people were killed in the clashes and at least more than 1,000 people were arrested for investigations.
“Twenty-three children have been arrested in Cairo and Giza until now, including four girls,” the coalition said in a statement on Sunday, adding that it is currently trying to figure out the number of arrests.
The coalition added that five children were also killed in the clashes while tens were injured, urging the general prosecutor to begin investigations immediately and bring those responsible to justice.
