The Thomson Reuters Foundation uses its unique set of skills to help women worldwide know and defend their rights. We run a number of groundbreaking programmes aimed at empowering women through news, information, free legal assistance and media development. Our Trust Women Conference is dedicated to putting the rule of law behind women’s rights.
We believe transparency and accountability are essential to good governance. Through special events throughout the year and via our own exclusive reporting we shine a light on how corruption corrodes development, worsens poverty and undermines the rule of law.
We have created the world’s leading market place for free legal assistance. Our TrustLaw Connect service brings together the world’s best law firms and high-impact NGOs and social enterprises in need of free legal help.
From Zimbabwe and South Sudan to China and Brazil, we are spreading the practice of pro bono to new frontiers.
Our global team of 25 journalists provide information on the most pressing humanitarian issues of our time, including natural disasters, conflicts, refugees, hunger, diseases and climate change. They report the world’s under-reported stories, the ‘forgotten’ crises that rarely make mainstream headlines. Our news service has become an essential tool for relief workers, donors, policy makers, students, journalists and the general public.
Our AlertNet Climate news service covers the human and development impacts of climate change, focusing on adaptation, climate compatible development, security issues, disaster risk reduction and forest protection. Our network includes over 80 journalists who report from developing countries most at risk from a warming planet.
Our polls put human rights, corruption and the rule of law at the heart of the news agenda. The result of a close collaboration with the world’s leading gender experts, the Foundation’s latest polls – Women’s Right’s in the Arab World (2013) The Best and Worst G20 Countries to be a Woman (2012) and The Worst Countries to be a Woman (2011) - obtained extensive media coverage around the word.
We help and support those social entrepreneurs working to alleviate some of the world’s most pressing problems.
Our news coverage is focused on solutions provided by these entrepreneurs to help advance development, end poverty and empower women.
Our TrustLaw Connect service supports hundreds of social enterprises with innovative approaches to solving social and environmental challenges.
The Thomson Reuters Foundation contributes to the enhancement of journalism standards across the world. The Foundation’s TrustMedia service has trained more than 11,000 journalists across 170 countries on everything from elections and sports reporting to covering health crises, women's rights and corruption.
