Federico Lombardi explained that the Pope had a "slight fever," and the doctor recommended that he cancel the visit and get some rest instead.

February 28, 2014. On Friday morning, Pope Francis will meet with Spanish bishops on their "ad limina" visit, led by Card. Antonio María Rouco Varela, archbishop of Madrid. The Pope will also meet with the members of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America. On Friday evening, he will travel to the Pontifical Major Roman Seminary to meet with seminarians.

February 26, 2014. Pope Francis appointed Msrg. José Carlos de Souza Campos Bishop of the diocese of Divinópolis (Brazil).

February 25, 2014. The Extraordinary Chapter General for the Legionaries of Christ ended after nearly two months. Card. Velasio de Paolis closed the gathering with a Mass alongside the new leadership and members. The participants elected Mexican Eduardo Roble Gil as the new director general. They also drafted new constitutions. The congragation will shortly publish their conclusions and their plan for the next six years. Once approved by the Holy See, they will also publish their new constitutional texts.

February 25, 2014. Pope Francis accepted the resignation of Msgr. Zdzisław Fortuniak as the auxiliary bishop of Poznań (Poland). He also appointed Msgr. Donal McKeown as the new bishop of the Diocese of Derry (Ireland).

February 24, 2014. Pope Francis created the Secretariat for the Economy, a new departament that will supervise the Vatican finances. It will be leaded by Cardinal George Pell, Archbishop of Sydney and also member of the so-called G8 Council of Cardinals. This Secretariat will also have 15 counsellors, 8 of them prelates and 7 lay people.

February 24, 2014. On Monday morning, Pope Francis met with Haitian President Michel Joseph Martelly. After, he welcomed Spanish bishops on their 'ad limina' visit: Msgr. Francisco Gil Hellín, archbishop of Burgos; Msgr. Mario Iceta Gavigagogeascoa, bishop of Bilbao; Msgr. Gerardo Melgar Viciosa, bishop of Osma-Soria; Msgr. Esteban Escudero Torres, bishop of Palencia; Msgr. Miguel José Asurmendi Aramedia, bishop of Viroria; Msgr. Francisco Pérez González, archbishop of Pamplona; Msgr. February 21, 2014. On Friday, Pope Francis will spend most of the day with the College of Cardinals, for the Extraordinary Consistory to discuss the state of the family. The two sessions are from 9:30-12:30PM and from 4:30-7PM. Half an hour after the last session, at 7:30PM, the Pope will welcome Brazilian President Dilma Rouseff at his studio in Paul VI Hall.

February 17, 2014. During this week, Pope Francis will meet with the Council of Cardinals on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, after the General Audience. On Thursday and Friday, he will meet with all of the cardinals for an Extraordinary Consitory. The sessions will take place at the New Synod Hall, from 9:30-12:30PM, and from 4:30-7PM. On Saturday morning, the Pope will lead the ceremony for the creation of 19 new cardinals; while on Sunday, he will celebrate Mass with them.

February 14, 2014. Pope Francis received today the visit 'ad limina' of the Czech Bishops' Conference. He then met with Moysès Louro de Azevedo Fliho, founder of the Catholic community of Shalom, in Brasil. Finally, the Pope met thousands of couples that are preparing for marriage in St. Peter's Square.

February 12, 2014. Pope Francis accepted the resignation of Msgr. Elias James Manning, and appointed Msgr. Nelson Francelino Ferreira as the new bishop of the Diocese of Valença (Brazil). The Pope also named Fr. Antônio Carlos Cruz Santos as the bishop of the Diocese of Caicó (Brazil).

February 10, 2014. Pope Francis accepted the resignation of Msgr. Emilio Patriarca, and appointed Moses Hamungole as the new bishop of the Diocese of Monze (Zambia). The Pope also accepted the resignation of Msgr. Mariano Anastasio Moreno García, and named Fr. José Demetrio Jiménez Sánchez-Mariscal as the new bishop of the Territorial Prelature of Cafayate (Argentina).

February 10, 2014. Pope Francis met on Monday morning with: Card. Antonio Cañizares Llovera, prefect of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments; Card. Agostino Vallini, Vicar General for the Diocese of Rome; and Card. Gerhard Ludwig Müller, prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. The Pope also met with Msgr, Cesare Nosiglia, Archbishop of Turin.

February 7, 2014. Pope Francis met on Friday morning with the leadership of Chile's bishops' conference, led by Cardinal-elect Ricardo Ezzati Andrello, the Archbishop of Santiago. He then welcomed Gjoko Gjorgjevski, the ambassador to the Holy See from the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. The Pope also met with the remaining Polish bishops for an 'ad limina' visit; followed by an audience at the Clementine Hall with all of the members of the Polish Episcopal Conference.

February 6, 2014. The Holy See confirmed the election of Eduardo Robles Gil as the new director general for the Legionaries of Christ. His election took place on January 20, during the Chapter General. Robles Gil previously served as the Legionaries' territorial director of Mexico.

February 6, 2014. Pope Francis confirmed the members of the Pontifical Congregation for the Laity. It will continue under the leadership of Polish Card. Stanisław Ryłko, as president, and Msgr. Josef Clemens, as secretary. The members for the Congregation include Yago de la Cierva, former director of ROME REPORTS.

February 6, 2014. On Thursday morning, the new Egyptian ambassador to the Holy See, Wafaa Moharram Bassim, presented her credential to Pope Francis. At 10:50, he also met with Msgr. Franco Coppola, the apostolic nuncio to the Central African Republic. Twenty minutes later, he welcomed another group of bishops from the Polish Episcopal Conference for an 'ad limina' visit.

February 3, 2014. Pope Francis appointed Msgr. Thomas Menamparampil, archbishop emeritus of Guwahati, as the apostolic administrator 'sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis' of the Diocese of Jowai (India).

February 3, 2014. On Monday morning, Pope Francis welcomed Tui Atua Tupua Tamasse Efi, the head of state for Samoa. Thirty minutes later, at 11AM, he met with Msgr. Jean Louis Bruguès, the archivist and librarian of the Holy Roman Church, along with Msgr. Sergio Pagano, the prefect of the Vatican Secret Archives. January 31, 2014. The Vatican hired accounting firms PricewaterhouseCoopers and Deloitte to audit the economic and administrative procedures of the Bambibo Gesù Hospital and the 'Fondazione Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza.' The Vatican will use the audit reports to make changes to the two hospitals, in a bid for greater transparency and improved management.

January 31, 2014. Pope Francis accepted the resignation of Msgr. Antioco Piseddu, and appointed Fr. Antonio Mura as the new bishop of the Diocese of Lanusei (Italy). He also named Msgr. Stefano Manetti as the bishop of the Diocese of Montepulciano-Chiusi-Pienza (Italy).

January 31, 2014. Pope Francis kicked off a busy Friday schedule by meeting at 10:30 with Madrid Card. Antonio Maria Ruoco Varela. Thirty minutes later, he welcomed Msgr. Bruno Musarò, apostolic nunzio to Cuba. At 11:20, the Pope met with Cardinal-elect Vincent Gerard Nichols, Archbishop of Westminster (UK), followed by Don Ferdinando Neri from the Nomadelfia Community, twenty minutes later. At 11:55, he welcomed Prof. Franco Milano, national president for the Italian Catholic Action group; and at 12:15PM, the Pope addressed the participants of the Plenary Assembly for the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. The last scheduled event was a meeting at 6PM, with Card. Fernando Filoni, the prefect for the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.

January 30, 2014. Pope Francis accepted the resignation of Msgr. Michele Russo, and named Msgr. Miguel Angel Sebastián Martínez as the apostolic administrator 'sede vacante et ad nutum Sanctae Sedis' of the Diocese of Doba (Chad).

January 30, 2014. Pope Francis accepted the resignation of Card. Attilio Nicora as the president of the Vatican's Financial Information Authority (AIF). In his place, the Pope appointed Msgr. Giorgio Corbellini, currently the president of the Disciplinary Commission of the Roman Curia.
