Ghana supports Saharawi people’s right to self-determination

Algiers, March 19, 2014 (SPS) - Ghana supports the Saharawi people’s right to self-determination, in accordance with UN resolutions, said Tuesday in Algiers, its Foreign Minister, Hannah Swentah Tettah on an official visit in Algeria.

"We support the Saharawi people right to self-determination and call for the implementation of the United Nations resolution in this regard," Ghanaian Minister stressed at the end of her discussions with his Algerian counterpart, Ramtane Lamamra.

Tettah described the discussions as "positive" in which a range of political and economic questions were addressed.

“During this meeting, we revive political dialogue and exchange ideas on bilateral relations," she said, adding the two parties have decided to re-launch the Joint Cooperation Committee to examine other issues of common interest.

Ghanaian Minister also expressed the wish “to establish a partnership not only with the state sector but also the private sector” and to undertake “negotiations” to develop commercial ties between the two countries.

On the security plan, she wished to convey the “thanks” of her country to the Algerian government for “all measures” taken in the fight against terrorism in Africa, including Mali. (SPS)
