Namibia continues to stand firm with Saharawi people, says President Pohamba

Windhoek, March 25, 2014 (SPS) - President of the Republic of Namibia H.E. Mr. Hifikepunye Pohamba has expressed firm solidarity with the Saharawi people, calling to allow them to exercise their right to self-determination.

In a statement addressed to the nation on Friday on the occasion of the commemoration of the 24th anniversary of the independence of Namibia, President Phamba said that his country "will continue to stand firm in solidarity with the peoples of Western Sahara and Palestine until they too, are able to exercise their inalienable rights to self-determination."

He also stressed the need to continue to work hand in hand within the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the African Union (AU), the United Nations (UN) and other international fora to promote and maintain global peace and security, and sustainable development.

The southern African country of Namibia obtanied independence on March 21th, 1990. (SPS)
