The first joint meeting of the Governments of Romania and the Republic of Moldova, held on Saturday, in Iasi (eastern Romania), concluded with the initialling of several bilateral agreements in various fields.

"What we succeeded today could be placed under two main chapters: an assessment of what the former Executive managed to build and, at the same time, of what we can further build, on the basis of a specific timetable, initiatives to justify what interests us as strategic, both for Romania and the Republic of Moldova'', said Romanian Prime Minister Mihai-Razvan Ungureanu.

In turn, Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova Vlad Filat said that expectations were justified on the two executives meeting. "This platform provided by this meeting proved to be useful. We had the opportunity that, face to face, the ministers in charge with the respective areas could talk about accomplishments, about challenges, about outstanding issues, but more importantly was to identify and talk about future large-spanning projects. Our approach was one needed now, was a pragmatic one, that addressed to the solving of issues people are facing. Therefore, the economic projects, aimed at infrastructure, development of economic relations, offering of investment opportunities dominated the two governments meeting agenda", Vlad Filat emphasized.

Several bilateral documents were signed on Saturday, in Iasi, at the end of the joint meeting of the Governments of Romania and the Republic of Moldova, by the two prime ministers and by the members of the Cabinets in Bucharest and Chisinau.

Romanian Prime Minister Ungureanu and his Moldovan counterpart Vlad Filat signed the Action Plan to implement the Joint Declaration on the setting of a Strategic Partnership for the Republic of Moldova's European integration.

Areas of cooperation under the Action Plan are European integration, political and institutional cooperation, economic cooperation, as well as cooperation in cultural, educational, youth and sports fields. The Action Plan signed by the Romanian and Moldovan Prime Ministers provides a framework for bilateral cooperation in line with Romania's commitment to support the key strategic objective of the Republic of Moldova — the European Union membership.

In the presence of two officials, the Romanian Minister of National Defence, Gabriel Oprea, and his Moldovan counterpart Vitalie Marinuta it was signed the Inter-governmental agreement on the legal regime of the Romanian war graves in the Republic of Moldova, and Minister of Administration and Interior Gabriel Berca and his Moldovan counterpart Alexei Roibu have signed the Agreement between the Government of Romania and the Government of the Republic of Moldova on cooperation and mutual assistance in case of disasters, this document stipulating the principles and technical procedures governing the conduct of activities of forecasting, prevention, preparedness, protection and intervention, in the aim to locate, limit and remove the effects of natural disasters, industrial accidents and / or other disasters, in a harmonized manner with requirements and recommendations on the international cooperation in this matter.

A protocol of cooperation between the Ministries of Labor of the two countries was signed by the Romanian Minister Claudia Boghicevici and her Moldovan counterpart Valentina Buliga.

The Romanian Minister of Education, Catalin Baba, and Moldovan Minister of Youth and Sports Ion Cebanu signed an Agreement on cooperation in youth and sports.

As well, a Cooperation agreement was signed between the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism of Romania and the Ministry of Construction and Regional Development of the Republic of Moldova, by the ministers Cristian Petrescu and Anatolie Zolotcov.

A joint statement between the Ministry of Regional Development and Tourism of Romania, the Ministry of Environment and Forests of Romania and the Ministry of Construction and Regional Development and the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Moldova was signed by the Romanian ministers Laszlo Borbely and Cristian Petrescu and, on behalf of the Moldovan side, by Minister Gheorghe Salaru and Deputy Minister Anatolie Zolotcov.

Between 2005 and 2011, Romania held inter-governmental meetings with Hungary, Italy, Bulgaria and Israel. AGERPRES
