The Indro Montanelli gardens of Porta Venezia represent a municipal oasis, with gravel paths, small waterfalls, lakes and bridges, rock faces, limes, magnolias, willows, beeches and other trees.
The park is open to all, and it is popular with a wide variety of people, such as joggers and cyclists, and people taking lunch or an aperitif in a natural setting. For children, there are three play areas, and the ducks on the lake.
The Porta Venezia gardens are the first public park to have been created in Milan. They were laid out between 1782 and 1786, to a design by architect Giuseppe Piermarini. In 2002, the area was named after the famous journalist Indro Montanelli, who died in 2001. He is depicted in a statue near the Piazza Cavour entrance.
