His voice was heard on the air for decades, running down “Top 40″ radio hits for generations of listeners.

Then, it went silent.

Last year, it was revealed that Casey Kasem, 82, was battling Parkinson’s disease.

But now the former radio host isn’t just sick — he’s missing.

The Associated Press reports:

A judge on Monday ordered an investigation into the whereabouts of Casey Kasem after an attorney for the ailing radio personality’s wife said the former “Top 40” host had been removed from Los Angeles without his children’s knowledge. …

Casey Kasem’s children have complained that they have been unable to see their father in accordance with an agreement with their stepmother. Daughter Kerri Kasem had sought a temporary conservatorship and was appointed her father’s temporary caretaker on Monday. Her attorney, Troy Martin, said the family believes the entertainer has been taken to an Indian reservation in Washington state.

Kasem’s disappearance and his family’s infighting recall the saga of Mickey Rooney, who died last month. Rooney, who made more than 300 appearances in movies and on television in more than eight decades, testified about elder abuse on Capitol Hill in 2011, accusing his stepson of withholding food and medicine.

“I felt trapped, scared, used and frustrated,” Rooney told Congress. “But above all, when a man feels helpless, it’s terrible.”

Similar allegations haven’t been made in Kasem’s case, but a judge ordered adult protective services to locate him.

In court, Craig Marcus, a lawyer representing Kasem’s wife Jean, pointed out that she has the right to move her husband wherever she wishes. Jean Kasem, perhaps best known for her role as a less-than quick-witted blonde on “Cheers,” married the radio host in 1980. The couple has a 23-year-old child.

Marcus said he didn’t know where Kasem was, but that he “was no longer in the United States.”

“I have no idea where he is,” Marcus told the court.
