The first round of the much-anticipated presidential elections will be held on May 26 and 27, the Higher Elections Commission said in a press conference Sunday.

Candidate nominations will open on March 31 and close on April 20, the HEC said.

The results for the first round will be announced on June 5, and a winner will be declared should they receive the majority of votes required for this round. Otherwise, a second round will be held on June 16 and 17, with the final results announced on June 26.

Campaigning for candidates can commence from May 3 until May 23, and will be barred on May 24 and 25.

Egyptians abroad will head to the polls between May 15–18 for the first round, and 6–9 June for the second round.

A list of nominees will be finalized on May 10 and 11 after vetting proposed candidates, which will start on April 22.

Article 230 in the Constitution stipulates that both parliamentary and presidential elections must be held 30 to 90 days after the constitution is ratified, while not specifying which should come first.

Earlier this month, interim President Adly Mansour issued a presidential elections law that will prevent the final results from being legally challenged.
