This section contains answers to the most frequently asked questions about Economist Store. It will resolve most of the queries you have.
The Economist is published weekly, 51 times a year, with the Christmas double issue remaining on sale for two weeks. The issue is dated Saturday and goes on sale each Friday.
Intelligent Life is a bi-monthly magazine, with each issue going on sale in the month preceding the issue name.
The World In is an annual publication. It is published in November and is on sale until March.
You can create an account in two ways; from the homepage or after you have proceeded to check out.
Once registered, you will only need to enter your e-mail address and password to order again.
Follow these steps:
- On The Economist Store homepage, select "My account" from the top left-right corner.
- You will then be asked if you are a registered user or if you are a new user, select "create a new account"
- You will be asked to enter your personal details and delivery address, and confirm your e-mail address and password.
- Having registered successfully, you will receive a confirmation e-mail.
Click on the "Forgotten your password?" link on the log-in page and enter your e-mail address.
Click on "My account" on the top menu bar. Click on "update my email". To change your e-mail address or reset your password, simply input your new details and click "Update your details"
Prices displayed include delivery costs and taxes (where applicable). Any discount to the normal issue cover price will be explained. If you pay for your individual copy using any non-local currency the price you pay will be dependant on the exchange rate of your credit card company and may fluctuate.
You will get an e-mail once we've received your order. We will notify you by telephone, letter or e-mail in case there is a problem with your order.

What is The Economist historical archive?
The archive allows you to read and print back copies of The Economist online, with issues dating from 1843 to 2006.
All you need is a standard web browser. No plug-ins or special applications are required.
Users have full and unlimited access to The Economist historical archive, including access to:
- Every newspaper issued between 1843 and 2006, from cover to cover
- News, analysis, commentary, editorials, statistics, demographics, letters to the editor, obituaries, and historical photographs
- Special surveys and supplements on countries and industries
- Regional and specialist sections including the Bagehot, Lexington, and Charlemagne columns
- Classified and display advertising profiling major companies, job opportunities and more
Users can search or browse by issue and date, or use more advanced search options such as sections of the paper, article type or article title.
Do I need to subscribe before I can access The Economist historical archive?
Yes. If you want to access the historical archive, you must subscribe.

Subscribers have access to the complete historical archive for the duration of their current subscription.
What's the difference between The Economist online archive and the historical archive?
Access to the historical archive provides all content from issues published between 1843 and 2006. This is not included in a print subscription.
A print subscription gives you free access to all articles from the print edition on The Economist online from 2000 onwards.

How is a subscription paid?
We accept the same credit cards as for any other products sold via the Economist Store.
How do I purchase a subscription to The Economist historical archive online?
- Go to www.store.economist.com/historicalarchive.
- Add the subscription to the cart.
- Press "proceed to check out".
- Select "proceed without account" from the next page and press "continue".
- when ordering, enter the same e-mail address as your login for The Economistonline. If you have not already registered as an Economist online user, you will be asked during the checkout process to set up an account with The Economist online, using the e-mail address you supplied at purchase.
- An e-mail confirmation of the order will be sent to you, containing your link to the historical archive.
- You will be sent to the historical archive "Log-in" screen at www.economist.com/historicalarchive, where you will be able to login with your existing Economist online details.
When does my subscription start?
Your subscription starts on the date you place your order on the Economist Store. Access to the historical archive is activated after payment has been received. An order confirmation e-mail will be sent to you, containing your link to the historical archive.
Can I give a subscription to The Economist historical archive as a gift?
The subscription can only be personal, because the historical archive access details are the same as your access details to The Economist online. For data protection reasons, these details are not transferable.
Can I cancel my subscription to The Economist historical archive?
Your subscription carries a money-back guarantee. You will receive a prorated refund for the unexpired part of your subscription should you wish cancel.
How do I can cancel my subscription?

Can I share my online access to The Economist historical archive?
Online access is personal, and can't be shared with another person.
I cannot log in despite having entered the correct log in details
Please re-set your password by logging into your account in Economist online, select My personal information and ensure that the e-mail address you entered to log in is the same as the one you use to log in to Economist online.

Are multiple subscriptions possible?
At this stage we do not offer multiple subscriptions in one transaction. Where multiple subscriptions are required they need to be ordered individually.
No volume discount is given.
I need only one article. Is there a way to get one article without a subscription?
At the moment we only offer an annual subscription with unrestricted access. It is not possible to access an article without a subscription.
We may review this in the future.
Can I select and copy the text from an article?
The scanned pages do not allow you to select or copy text, but you can print out an entire article or multiple pages. You can also bookmark pages for easier access.
Can I download articles to my computer and read them offline?
The digital archive is only available online and articles cannot be downloaded. You can, however, print out individual articles and even the whole issue.
It is also possible to bookmark pages.
How do I log out?
You will be logged out automatically every time you close The Economist historical archive.
Can I switch editions?
All archived issues are only available in the UK edition.
Registration to and activation of The Economist historical archive
How can I create an account?
If you're a subscriber to The Economist historical archive, an account will be created as part of the activation of your digital subscription during the checkout process.
You will then receive an order confirmation e-mail, containing a link to give you instant access to the historical archive. This e-mail will come from

What if I don't receive my order confirmation e-mail?
This e-mail should reach your inbox after subscribing. If the e-mail has not arrived, or you encounter any other problems, please contact us and we will e-mail you the link again. Just make sure that you enter the e-mail address that you used when subscribing.
Before that, please go to your e-mails and check your junk folder or spam filter, regrettably it may have been filtered by your e-mail provider.
Depending on your e-mail provider, you are advised to add store.economist@mailservice.quadrantsubs.com to your safe sender list. Some providers may treat this e-mail address as spam mail or junk, and will stop the order confirmation e-mail from reaching your inbox.
Can you send me a new link to access the historical archive?
To access the historical archive, simply go to http://www.economist.com/historicalarchive
and log-in using your Economist online account details.
How do I access The Economist historical archive?
If you have already registered as an Economist online user, the password and e-mail address used to access the site are also valid to access The Economist historical archive at www.economist.com/historicalarchive
If you do not have an Economist online account you can register at www.economist.com/register
Why do I have to register?
Registration is only required for subscribers who have not already registered so that we can recognise the user as a subscriber and allow him/her access.
I need confirmation of my current Economist online details
You can reset your password via Forgot password when you click on Log in at www.economist.com.
To change the password you use to log in to The Economist online, please log in to your account at www.economist.com and select My account to view your Member homepage. From here, click My personal information on the left side of the page and select Change my Economist online password.
Can I use my Economist online access details to access the historical archive?
Yes, the account details for The Economist historical archive are the same as those for Economist online. You will receive an order confirmation e-mail to inform you when your access to the historical archive has been activated, and you can start using your Economist online details at www.store.economist.com/historicalarchive.
My account details aren't working
You will not be able to activate your account with a different e-mail address to the one you used when subscribing to the online historical archive.
If you have forgotten your password, you can change the password you use to log in to The Economist online. Please log in to your account at www.economist.com and select My account to view your Member homepage. From here, click My personal information on the left side of the page and select Change my Economist online password.

After your payment has been accepted, and once we have checked that your Economist online registration is valid, you will receive an order confirmation e-mail to inform you that access to the historical archive has been activated. You will then be directed to The Economist historical archive log-in page. Please enter your log-in details to access all contents.
I have forgotten my Economist online password. How do I reset it?
You can reset your password via Forgot password when you click on Log in at www.economist.com.
How do I change my password and e-mail address?
To change the password you use to log in to The Economist online, please log in to your account at www.economist.com and select My account to view your Member homepage. From here, click My personal information on the left side of the page and select Change my Economist online password.
You must change your registered e-mail address to Economist online. When accessing the historical archive at www.economist.com/historicalarchive, use your new log-in details.
I cannot log in despite having entered the correct log in details
Please re-set your password by logging into your account in Economist online, select My personal information and ensure that the e-mail address you entered to log in is the same as the one you use to log in to Economist online.
If you still have a problem, please contact customer services.
This means that you can get a full refund for the remainder of your subscription, should you wish to cancel your subscription mid-way.
