Analysis: He was 16-15-12 in 45 games with New Jersey last season and posted a 1.97 goals-against average, third best in the NHL. The 28-year-old Schneider would have been an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2014-15 season.

Heatley also has played for Atlanta and Ottawa in his career, notching 372 goals and 419 assists in 863 career games. He is a four-time All Star and a two-time 50-goal scorer. Heatley ranks second among NHL players with 143 power-play goals.

General manager Stan Bowman said all along that the extensions were his biggest offseason priority, and the team announced the megadeals Wednesday. The Blackhawks did not release the value of the deals that keep the two stars in Chicago through the 2022-23 season.

Analysis: Chicago selected Toews with the No. 3 pick in the 2006 draft, and grabbed Kane with the No. 1 overall selection the following year. They combined to lead the Blackhawks to Stanley Cup titles in 2010 and 2013. Kane had 29 goals and 40 assists and Toews finished with 28 goals and 40 assists this season. The Blackhawks lost to Los Angeles in the Western Conference finals.

Analysis: Ekholm, 24, had one goal and eight assists in 62 games as a rookie last season. He was one of only six NHL defensemen to play at least 50 games and to be assessed 10 or fewer penalty minutes. He also played one game for the Predators in 2012-13 and appeared in two games with the team in 2011-12.

Fisher, 34, served as Nashville's alternate captain last season and had 20 goals and 29 assists in 75 games. He has 226 goals and 255 assists in 887 career regular-season games.

A former third-round pick by the Sabres in 2007, he has five goals and 14 assists in 87 career NHL games with Buffalo and Columbus.
7/5/2014Olli Jokinen, CJokinen says the chance to play for new Nashville coach Peter Laviolette was one of the reasons why the free-agent center chose to sign with the Predators.

Analysis: The 35-year-old Jokinen met the Nashville media on Saturday, three days after the Predators signed him to a one-year, $2.5 million contract. Jokinen said Laviolette's teams "create a lot of chances, a lot of offense."
