Pan African Lawyers Union affirms support for Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination

Yaounde (Cameroon), June 9, 2014 (SPS) - The General Assembly of the Pan African Lawyers Union called for the protection of human rights in the Western Sahara and support for the Saharawi people’s right to self-determination.     
   
The Pan African Lawyers Union called in a final statement at the end of the work of the General Assembly which was held in Yaounde (Cameroon)" to put an end to the violations of human rights in the Saharawi occupied territories and exploitation by the Kingdom of Morocco of the resources of the Western Sahara, which is contrary to international law."        
 
 The Union called for "including this recommendation in the action strategy of the organization after a presentation by the representative of the Saharawi Lawyers’ Union, Boumediene Mohamed Lamine Ahmed, during the General Assembly."    
 
 
On the other hand, the General Assembly elected the new executive body of the Pan African Lawyers Union who will work for the "implementation of the next strategy with this recommendation."
       
The General Assembly of the African Lawyers Union meets once every three years as its General Council meets annually in the presence of presidents, lawyers and representatives of national organizations of African lawyers. (SPS)
