In this open lecture, he explored the nature of the evolving party system in Turkey, and addressed the question of what it means to be a political opposition party in the AKP era.

Dr. Sinan Ciddi is the author of Kemalism in Turkish Politics: The Republican People's Party: Secularism and Nationalism Between 2008-2011. Before his appointment as the fourth Executive Director of the Institute of Turkish Studies at Georgetown University, Washington DC, Dr. Ciddi established the Turkish Studies program at the University of Florida's Senter for European Studies. He gained his Ph.D. in Political Science from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London in June 2007 and completed his Post-Doctoral Fellowship at Sabancı University between 2007-2008.
