The University of Prince Edward Island offers a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs in a dynamic, intimate learning environment that supports teaching excellence and student success, in four faculties — Arts, Science, Education, and Veterinary Medicine — and two schools — Business and Nursing.

UPEI is located in Prince Edward Island’s capital, Charlottetown, a culturally vibrant city of more than 32,000 people, and one of the safest cities in Canada. UPEI’s legacy of more than 200 years of history and its mixed rural/urban environment give it a distinctive character that combines rich tradition with leading-edge research and learning opportunities. The size and location of the campus, and that professors get to know their students personally, set UPEI apart, nationally and internationally.

A decade-long commitment to renewal has equipped the historic campus with impressive new research facilities, student residences, student centre, sports complex, and fitness centre. The most recent addition is the Health Sciences Building, home to the School of Nursing and Applied Human Sciences programs.

UPEI is known for its commitment to academic excellence through its strong learning support programs, small class sizes, close interaction between professors and students, and opportunities for meaningful research at the undergraduate level as well as graduate level. Access to student mobility opportunities including numerous co-op and professional internship placements and international exchanges, also enhances the academic experience for students. UPEI currently has 252 permanent, and 51 term faculty, including five 3M Teaching Award winners and 15 funded research chairs.

UPEI boasts a great selection of exceptional graduate programs. The faculties of Science and Veterinary Medicine offer MSc, MVSc and PhD programs in disciplines related to animal and human health, biology and chemistry. The Faculty of Arts offers a unique interdisciplinary Master of Arts in Island Studies. The Faculty of Education offers two-year post-degree bachelor degrees with specializations in “enseignement en français langue seconde” and human resource development, a MEd in Leadership in Learning, and a PhD in Educational Studies. The School of Business, a recognized leader in business education with a focus on entrepreneurship and international business offers an evidence-based executive MBA. A collaborative Master of Applied Health Services Research as well as a Master of Nursing with both a nurse practitioner and thesis stream are also offered.

UPEI has extended its impact well beyond its borders by establishing unique partnerships that contribute to a vibrant research agenda. The university’s personal scale and its strong teacher-student relationships contribute to its research success. Managing more than $18 million in annual research expenditures, UPEI encourages both individual and collaborative research; for example, an on-campus biosciences and health research facility provides a shared environment for researchers from UPEI, National Research Council, and Agriculture and Agri-Foods Canada.
