Kurdish Peshmerga forces have attacked the Grvre community and Zumar town from three sides and inflicted large losses on militants from the Islamic State (IS).

Jamal Mohammed, a Peshmerga commander, told BasNews that on Saturday Peshmerga forces attacked IS militants in Zumar and Grvre.

“IS militants have mined many houses, roads and cars in Grvre and an explosion took place while our mine clearing team was securing the area,” said Mohammed.

He stated that as a result of the Sunday attack by Peshmerga forces on the Zumar area, more than 92 IS militants have been killed and a further 160 taken to hospitals in Mosul with severe injuries.

Mohammed also mentioned that in these areas, the defeats and failure of IS insurgents is damaging their morale.

In recent weeks, Peshmerga forces have attacked many areas controlled by IS militants and in almost all of them, they have seen success. IS insurgents have changed tactics from fighting to mining the roads and areas to hinder Peshmerga advances.
