Ismail Haniyeh, senior Hamas leader, had lived in hiding since the beginning of the Israeli bombardment of Gaza. Now the violence seems to have ended, he addressed crowds in Gaza, giving praise to those who had given their lives in the conflict and praising the stamina of the Palestinians.
