The Egyptian authorities arrested 20 people on Sunday at two metro stations in Cairo for "causing disturbance" as they attempted to stage protests inside the subway, security sources said.

Supporters of deposed Islamist President Mohamed Mursi have called for holding a sit-in inside Cairo's Metro during rush hours (from seven a.m. to ten a.m.) to bring the country's capital to a standstill to protest against Mursi's ouster by the military.

The protesters gathered at the metro stations of Al-Shohadaa and Saint Therese, chanted against the army and the police and sprayed anti-military slogans on the walls of the underground.
