No Doubt, Fall Out Boy, Usher to Perform at Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day Concert

This Earth Day, don’t just plant a tree, head on down to Washington, D.C. a few days early for a concert that is looking to help end extreme poverty and force some environmental policy changes around the world.
The Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day concert, set for April 18 at Washington, D.C.’s National Mall, will feature performances from Usher, My Morning Jacket, Mary J. Blige, Train, Fall Out Boy and No Doubt, who previously played at the 2014 Global Citizen Festival in New York City.

“Last year, we rocked with 60,000 global citizens in Central Park, all committed to ending extreme poverty,” No Doubt said in a statement. “We now help bring this movement to the nation’s capital, this time with a focus on climate change and its inexorable effect on the world’s poor. We owe it to our children to protect our planet and their futures.”
The free show, which will coincide with the spring meetings of the World Bank Group and International Montary Fund, will also feature appearances by world leaders to discuss key environmental issues at an event hosted by will.i.am and journalist Soledad O’Brien. The event will also feature appearances from recent Oscar winner Common and Nigerian singer-songwriter D’banj.
Fall Out Boy seem up to the challenge of hopefully inspiring some change, writing in a statement, “We are honored and humbled to be a part of this crucially important event. Taking direct action to make the world a better place – to eradicate extreme poverty and find a solution for climate change – is essential not only for us but for our kids and all future generations. If our participation and music can bring attention to these issues then we’re doing our job right. We must stand together to make lasting change.”

It was recently announced that Coldplay‘s Chris Martin has become the Global Citizen’s festival curator for the next 15 years. His post starts with the festival in Central Park in New York this coming September.
