JSTOR was excited to welcome its 9,000th library participant for archival journals in April of 2014—a museum of history in Japan. To commemorate this milestone, we've put together a pie graph charting JSTOR's participating libraries by community.

British Academy Report Looks to JSTOR for Usage Data

Open Access Journals in the Humanities and Social Sciences, by Rebecca Darley, Daniel Reynolds, and Chris Wickham, was recently published by the British Academy. The report analyzed usage data on JSTOR for many participating journals; this fed into a broader consideration of open access publishing. Their research explores the concept of "usage half-lives" on JSTOR—roughly defined as the median publication date for all article downloads within a particular journal or discipline (usually measured in months).

The half-life gives a snapshot of the longevity of research in a field. Journals in the humanities and social sciences generally have longer half-lives compared to those in the natural sciences.
