JSTOR Libraries by Community

JSTOR Hits 9,000 Library Participants!

JSTOR was excited to welcome its 9,000th library participant for archival journals in April of 2014—a museum of history in Japan. To commemorate this milestone, we've put together a pie graph charting JSTOR's participating libraries by community.

Thanks for helping to make JSTOR a trusted resource for this ever-expanding user base!

British Academy Report Looks to JSTOR for Usage Data

Open Access Journals in the Humanities and Social Sciences, by Rebecca Darley, Daniel Reynolds, and Chris Wickham, was recently published by the British Academy. The report analyzed usage data on JSTOR for many participating journals; this fed into a broader consideration of open access publishing. Their research explores the concept of "usage half-lives" on JSTOR—roughly defined as the median publication date for all article downloads within a particular journal or discipline (usually measured in months).

The half-life gives a snapshot of the longevity of research in a field. Journals in the humanities and social sciences generally have longer half-lives compared to those in the natural sciences.

This article in the Scholarly Kitchen includes an interview with author Chris Wickham about the study. You can also read the full report online. Many thanks to publishers who agreed to let the researchers include their usage!

Remember! Apply for Your e-ISSNs

A number of the archival journals on JSTOR currently lack e-ISSNs—particularly those in our recently released collections like Arts & Sciences XIII.

Having e-ISSNs for your titles helps us better manage our metadata and may also improve access to your content. To assist our publishers who are missing e-ISSNs, we can apply for them on your behalf. If you've recently applied for and received an e-ISSN assignment, if you're not sure what yours is, or if you have questions about e-ISSNs, please contact us at contentdevelopment@jstor.org.
