Construction projects have struggled to attain both sustainability and value for money in the construction industry. The strengths of Value Engineering can help increase sustainability in the construction industry. Designs have been known to have “unnecessary cost.” Value Engineering is well established tool to cut unnecessary cost in project. Value Engineering comes with a host of other related advantages like risk reduction, time management, better schedule, improved quality etc. hence showing the degree of savings that can be achieved. Main barrier to the implementation of Value engineering is misconception that it increases project cost and time. If this is overcome the cost savings achieved after the Value Engineering workshop can be invested into achieving increased sustainability. Increased sustainability has its own benefits to projects like, low emissions, reduced waste, increased recycling, reuse, low running cost etc. The benefits of Value Engineering and sustainability show a strong positive correlation; hence the linking of the two to form Sustainable Value Design should produce both increased sustainability and value for money on all construction projects.

Abstract: Fault displacements have been monitored at a geological test site in Bedřichov Tunnel, near Liberec, in northern Bohemia for more than a decade. The data are generated by four mechanical extensometers: two installed across faults orientated broadly NW-SE and two across faults orientated broadly NE-SW. These instruments measure rotations in two perpendicular planes and displacements in three dimensions using the moiré phenomenon of optical interference. We recently established an automatic fault displacement monitoring system based on the existing, but hitherto manual, mechanical extensometers. This system adopts entirely new approaches to data acquisition, data processing, and data interpretation. Data acquisition benefits from the fact that the tunnel incorporates 230V electrical sockets and RJ-45 Ethernet sockets which enable automatic configuration using the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP). From a network perspective our monitoring system comprises: a relay board with TCP/IP access so as to be able to hard reset the electronic components online; programmable cameras with 64GB of data storage and TCP/IP access; and a programmable climatic station with 1 MB of data storage and TCP/IP access. The monitoring system records the moiré patterns generated by the mechanical extensometers every five minutes along with a range of climatic parameters at each of the monitoring points. These moiré patterns are processed immediately using a pioneering generic fitting procedure. The generic fitting procedure greatly improves the sensitivity of the mechanical extensometer and so it supersedes the conventional procedure in which each moiré interference fringe is counted individually. Interpretation of the obtained data, in accord with the concept of ‘big data’, is conducted in four discrete steps: first, each data stream is compiled into a single database with synchronised timestamps; second, the database is interrogated to define specific events of interest; third, the causal sequence for each defined event of interest is analysed; fourth, the most commonly reoccurring causal sequences are constrained. The latter is particularly important as it enables us, for the first time, to provide a comprehensive assessment of the factors responsible for initiating displacements at each monitoring point and to predict the future behaviour of each fault. This automatic fault displacement monitoring system has great potential for studies of active tectonics. It can, at present, be established anywhere with a guaranteed power supply and means of telecommunications. Ongoing research continues to investigate robust technological solutions so that, in the future, the monitoring system can be installed in far more remote locations such as caves or mountainous regions.

Improvement in the anti-wear (AW) and extreme pressure (EP) ability of chemically modified palm oil (CMPO) by adding nanoparticles was experimentally evaluated. Nanolubricants were synthesized by adding 1 wt% copper(II) oxide (CuO) and 1 wt% molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanoparticles to CMPO. The AW/EP properties of the formulations were evaluated by four-ball and sliding wear tests. Wear surfaces were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, along with energy-dispersive X-ray and micro-Raman scattering spectroscopy. The MoS2 nanoparticles exhibited better AW/EP properties than did the CuO nanoparticles. The addition of 1 wt% oleic acid as a surfactant facilitated the reduction of agglomerates. capping layer of dielectric material to ensure that the electrode is isolated from the body
being measured. Such non contact potentiometers find applications in biomedical instrumentation
for EEG/ECG /EMG measurement. The paper intends to uitilize this feature to measure biological
phenomena such as pain or emergency maneuvers at the hormonal levels by simply monitoring
the potential distribution in different tissue sets , be it the heart or the brain. The paper will also
discuss the signal conditioning methods for the same.

The essay focus on the  events that brought in 1905 to the Marche Regional Exposition of Macerata. After a tough economic crisis during the last twenty years of the XIX century, the city of Macerata chose to improve its role in the territory through a big event (that it had tried to organize many times before without success). Once the city gained the approval for the agricultural exhibition, the commission transformed it in a much more ambitious event, with an industrial section and a vernacular and a modern show. It’s the first time, for the Marche history after the unity of Italy in 1861, that the commission of an exposition decided to make an important investment for temporary constructions. The chosen area is the city cattle market and the general planning is made by the engineer Ugo Cantalamessa: a series of pavilions along a boulevard and surrounded by a green area. The event becomes a ‘rappresentative moment’ and not just an economic chance. For the occasion it’s also founded  the magazine «L’Esposizione Marchigiana», origin of «Rivista Marchigiana Illustrata», that from 1906 to Second World War will be protagonist of the artistic and architectural debate of the Marche region. The exposition area is now converted into the biggest public garden of the city, and it still maintains elements of the original design in the oval track and the ‘Rotonda’ (placed where was the Feast Pavilion). The exposition it’s also one of the lost chances of the territory, because it didn’t succeeded in creating an economical and intellectual renewal. The essay recalls the series of events through archive documentations and published sources.

Pharmaceutical manufacturers of both sterile and non-sterile products, and medical devices, are required to demonstrate that manufacturing processes and procedures minimise any potential contamination to the product from the manufacturing environment. Contamination can arise from a number of sources: water, air, surfaces and personnel, each of which poses a potential risk to product.

These risks of contamination are avoided by putting environmental controls in place (through correct grade of air-supply, satisfactory cleaning and disinfection practices and so on). Where controls cannot off-set every contamination risk, and also as a means to demonstrate the level of control, environmental monitoring programmes are devised and put into action

To meet the desired mission and design requirements, the basic working relation-ships between various relevant variables and parameters governing the aerodynamics forces in the design of a Coandă MAV should be established. To that end, several tools can be utilized. The first is the analytical tool, which capitalizes on the basic fundamental principles. The second is the utili-zation of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), to provide visualization and significant insight in identifying the relevant problem. Theoretical analysis, and CFD computational and visualization studies will be useful in the preliminary study stage, as well as in designing specific experiments in the conceptual and prototype design stages. Various CFD studies have also indicated that there are still significant discrepancies between CFD and experimental studies, which necessitate the estab-lishment of specific baseline configurations for validation purposes. The present work carries out analysis and CFD visualization studies on the spherical and cylindrical Coandă MAV's.
